Pregnant and HOT!

We’ve been experiencing record highs all over the country these last few weeks and being 15 weeks pregnant myself, I feel sorry for all the women who are due in the summer or early fall this year. Pregnant women already have a higher body temperature, so when the heat index is in the 90′s or higher, it can be very uncomfortable and can cause extreme swelling.

It’s been over 100 degrees for the last two weeks here in Frisco, Texas and even at only 15 weeks I’ve been uncomfortably hot most of the time. I’ve had enough swelling in my fingers to switch my wedding rings for a faux diamond wedding band that’s a few sizes too big…but for right now fits just right.

Here are a few simple tips to help those who are pregnant and hot…

-Stay indoors with the air conditioning on as much as possible.

-Wear Breathable fabrics to avoid excessive sweating and heat rash.

-Apply a cool wet cloth to the back of the neck or forehead.

-Keep your feet elevated.

-Stay hydrated. (coconut water is a great way to replenish your electrolytes)

-If you like to exercise, try swimming. Not only does it keep you cool, but it can relieve some of the pressure off your achy back. Don’t forget your sun block!

-Wear comfortable shoes that are a few sizes too big.
